ABS pump needs replacing. What ones are ok?

Post by Jollus »

Hi,

I have had a fault code come up a few months ago for ABS electrical current v64 pump of something along them lines. We fixed it at first as the fuse had gone but the ABS light is back again and it has been determined by a friend of mine that the pump needs replacing.

My car is BBY engine code, 1.4 petrol 16v on a 52 plate.

My question is, would it be OK to get a second hand ABS pump from any MK 6 the same as my Polo or would it have to be a pump from an exact 1.4 petrol engine model?

Thanks

Hi

You have two options, firstly buy a second hand pump and control module complete from ebay( you will need the part number off your unit) or secondly send your unit off for repair to ECU Testing 23a Church Street Eastwood Notts NG16 3HP phone 01773 535638. I have used both routes I initially bought a unit cheaply off ebay for £80 a new unit cost £623 + vat. This cured the problem and is still on the vehicle I sent the removed unit for checking which only costs £10 for postage the company confirmed that the electronic components were at fault and not the mechanical unit and then quoted for the repair which cost £220 inc vat and postage the repair is guaranteed for 12 months so I now have a spare in case the second hand unit fails. This was a cost effective route for me because I will be keeping my vehicle for some time and I only cover a small mileage.

The part number for the complete unit is found on the black plastic cover at the back of the pump although VW have superseded these units with one part number I believe, unfortunately I do not have any of the paperwork with these numbers on now so I hope this information will be of some help. :D

Have you tried resetting your fault codes?
And do some searching, if the alternator isn't outputting enough voltage the PAS will not work.
Also check the connections and wiring.

There are two different style/make of pumps, so make sure you get the correct type.

It is also the same as fabia's and Ibiza's

I had the same problem and managed to get a secondhand one, unused from a Ibiza.
