engine noise and indicators

Post by dub6n2 »

why does the exhaust noise change when I switch on the hazard lights or as I can assume any other lights. I noticed that it will lower and increase slightly in volume in synchronisation with the blinkers!!! is it an alternator problem?

It's because the alternator is being put under more load and the engine compensates for this

so this happens with just switching on some bulbs!! I can't imagine what happens when I turn up the volume high with a less than what I call efficient amplifier and some speakers!! will an upgrade to a higher amp alternator help? Thanks as always Alex

Any extra load can increase the alternator demand. It may well be that your alternator isnt running as efficiently as it has been. Get a multimeter on the batter, rev to 3500 and check what the voltage is. Should be between 14.1 and 14.8
