Whats the diff. between the Beta/Gamma?

Post by kapur »

:?

Whats the major difference between the Beta and the Gamma Radio/casette by VW?

Obviously the Gamma is better......

I've got a beta i THINK... is it worth going for the gamma, or an aftermarket unit?

If you search, there are a few topics covering this.

The Gamma is designed for front/rear speakers, the beta for front only. plus the gamma has a mechanical tape loader too, if that's what you call it, where it sucks the tape in instead of pushing it.

You may be better off going aftermarket. The Gamma unit is around £300 from VW but £50 from ebay :D

If your looking for something to really match the display, then Becker (sp?) do a very nice looking unit. Maybe someone can post a pic?

Hi guys,

Here's a quick shot I took tonight of the Becker unit in my Polo 9n:

The all-red units would probably look nice in the Polo too... (?)

I think the sound quality of Becker is very very good... pretty detailed and honest playback of CDs :D.

Kapur, it depends what you're after. You want good sound? oem looks? lots of functions/gadgets? big colour display?...or?...

It's probably worth you popping into a few audio shops and playing around with some demo units. Everyone has a different idea of what sounds good (and looks good). Don't think all Sony's are bad.

Here's some daytime shots anyway, taken this morning (sorry my dash is abit dusty ):

I've got a sony headunit and think it does the job just fine

Take a look

http://www.ritey.com/MOV01161.MPG

Produces enough bass with sub control, TBH i reckon it all depends on the quality of amp and sub you use as well as the output of the headunit!

Its all relative :)

Becker's a German brand. I had someone send me one over from Germany (cos of the long waiting times in the shops here). In the UK this model is selling at around the £350 mark.

I'm new to Becker and only found out about it after an earlier thread by dxg (thanks deek... :)). Btw I have a list of Becker dealers/distributors around the UK, if anyone wants it just pm me.

I don't have anything else hooked up... it's loud enough for me as it is :)

Regards.

caraudiodirect.com do the becker monza mp3 for £349, i think. I love the way it looks almost standard in the polo.
