think my turbo is fluffed!!!!!!

Post by vwmorty »

right guys and gals need some info,

have had a few issues with the polo over the past few months but finally got to the bottom of it and found out i was running the wrong feul  doh!

the car was running great on v-power and momentum up until the other day, my wife was driving to work and noticed it wasnt the power wasnt as instant as before but put this down to feeling tired after a long shift(13hours).

anyway i get in the car tonight and start to drive it and noticed that at 3000 revs the car wasnt picking up as quick as before, temp was fine so took it a run up the bypass, normally in 3 gear at 3000 revs the turbo would kick in and the motor would take off but tonight it didnt???

the car is still fast but dosnt seem to be as quick as before, does this mean my turbo it fecked???

also is it safe enough to drive as its my wifes daily driver???

will be getting it on vag.com soon as i can hopefully monday

suppose my biggest question is........

HOW MUCH WILL A NEW TURBO COST????

ps...... its a 2006 polo gti running about 200 bhp

you checked for boost leaks and split pipes etc?

when your turbos going it should sound like a police siren in hi revs especially when you floor it in 3rd

Its not likely to be the Turbo.

Vag-com is a good place to start, if you have an issue (thrown a code) this can cause the car to go into 'limp mode' and not punch as hard.

I'd assume if you are not gettting the turbo boost, it could be one of many things:
- Thrown a code (simply needs to be erased)
- Boost leak
- MAF on the way out
- Throttle needs to be realigned

There are quite a few sensors that can go (exhaust, fuel, etc), it could be one of many things, but starting with Vag-com will make quick work of sorting the issue.

UPDATE....

car in for mot today and passed so nothing serious, looks like its a sticky dump valve so looking to get in touch with forge and get a service/cleaning kit

not the turbo/intercooler/maf sensor so panic over

played about with the dv and seemed to give it a wee turn of speed(not like it was but better) so get the kit and see what happens

cheers for the info guys

I opend my Forge splitter a month back, used a little WD40, didn't need it, but nothing to it.
