Opie Oils - service pack

Post by pvr »

Was just looking at getting the oil / filter, but the website is showing the service packs as grade 5w-30, whilst in the Haynes manual for the 1.4Match it states it needs 10w-40.

Any thoughts about this?

I noticed that too. Opie don't normally get it wrong but personally I think 5w/30 is too thin for these engines.

I'm running the 16v AHW on Fuchs 5w/40 at the moment I'm going to switch it to 10w/40 next time as I think it's a little too thin..

Also, avoid Opie - their prices are ridiculous. Better to buy a large container from Lubetechshop.co.uk and have enough for 5 oil changes...

Thanks for the tip re the other supplier.

Will stick with the "correct" viscosity, as you say - it just sounds wrong.

Could not find 10-40 on that website though ... only for Diesel engines.

Drop them an email from their homepage and address it to Tony, tell him Fahad from the Accord forum referred you - might get you a discount too. They will have 10w/40

I'm using their 0w/30 fully synthetic in my Accord at the moment and it's easily on par with the Motul I was using before that. Exol oil is produced in Europe and Lubetech are a UK company. I'd rather give them the business, their oil meets all the important specs - the only difference is they don't spend millions on marketing meaning they can pass the savings on to you.

In the end, I bought it all from the dealer. Yes ... the dealer.

Popped in to get the OEM oil filter, which was a reasonable £3.85. Then asked about the air filters: £12.95 - so had that as well. Finally, how much was the Quantum oil? £13.00 for 5 litres. With a new sump plug as well, the whole lot was less then £30 from the dealer???

Also booked in for the MOT at the dealer, as it is only £30 there as well.
