!!! extended warrenty !!!!

Post by jon_poloV »

ive just had a letter through vw saying that my warrenty has run out and would i like to take out a new warrenty with them. basically extended warrenty. i think it said its 250 a year. at the mo i have got probs with the passenger door opening and my car is making a strange noise from the gear box. went in last time and they said it could poss be the release bearing or a sring knocing around or something. when i need this sorted it could cost loads. i know if anything to do with the clutch they would not cover the clutch. from peoples past experience do you think it is worth taking this warrenty out with vw. in the past on warrenty claims they have been good. i have had
a steering arm,
internal door handle surrounds,
window motor burnt out in door all fixed.
thanks

Ask them for a copy of the cover - exclusions included..... Seems fair and reasonable to me to ask after all I wouldn't pay 250 quid for summut with get out clauses unless I knew about them.

I'm not sure about VW extended warrenties but my guess would be they would continue to offer the same level of cover that you got when the car was new - but like I said I don't know about VW

Last time I bought a brand new car was in 1989 (Pug 205 GTi) and I sold it within 6 months - Previous to that was 1983 and that was a F**d F*esta I sold that after short while too and swore I'd never buy another new car again and so far I've managed it. Too much depreciation for my liking

be careful john_polov mate

when mine ran out in april i had 2 options

1. vw customer care gave me a number for vw extended warranty and on my 2001 1.4 tdi it was £402 for 1 year and £674 for 2. that was supposed to be a complete extension of the existing one with no exclusions for increased wear but did include vw assistance (roadside cover etc.). it think the number was 0845 6419767 but check with vw cust care 0800 711811

2. rang the dealer where i purchased the car and they quoted me £300ish for the first year then something else carnt really remember. but they had clauses which meant less was covered and more was classed as wear n tear. which is b 0 llocks.

so the dealer might not be the only option for you. in the end i didnt bother with any. considered it was too expensive and the service at the main dealers is poor so i am better off at the local garage anyway.

When I spoke to the service manager at a VW Dealer near me, he basically told me that he didn't think the extended warranty was worth it, apparently it is nowhere near as comprehensive as the one from new.

He also told me that I would have to pay for any investigation work should something go wrong, and then it may not be covered!

I think Josh has a warranty with Warranty Direct, Am still considering this, it's about £220 I think, and you can get the car fixed where you want apparently.

In your case, it looks like you might have a fault that needs rectifying, and if it is covered by the 250 then its a no brainer, because I gurantee whatever you problem is, it will cost more than 250! Its a bit like taking out life insurance when you know you have one month to live.

Lets hope, we all have more than one month to live, so drive carefully, and keep the man upstairs happy.
