Adding Fog Lights - also cd player question

Post by vdubyagirl »

Hello,
Now I did do some research on other posts first but still need you to clarify this to me - put it in simple terms for me to understand :O)

So wanna fit some fog lights into my 2001 match. Checked out veedubmachine as recommended on here and worked out all the bits i need to buy. so gonna make a purchase tonight, just wanted to check do i need to purchase any wiring seperate? or does switch come with everything i need to hook this up? so do i just need to buy switch, grilles and bulbs?
is it an easy job to set them up? has anyone done a tutorial anywhere?

one other quick question, my car only has standard VW cassette player and gonna change to aftermarket stereo, just wondered about the facia surround to use? as the cassette player is pretty chunky will i need a new surround? Will it only replace the cassette player area or the little empty drawer underneath, which i quite like for popping phone in and it seems to be felt lined will the new one be the same?

thanks for your help in advance :O)

well i cant answer the fog light question as my car came with em. but as for the cd slot and the 'felted space underneath' they are two seperate items as you will see when you take the radio out. you can get double din sterios wich will take up your radio and pocket space underneath it (the felted pocket also comes out). dou you have radio keys to get your starndard radio out ?

ah right i see well thats gd then cos i kinda wanna keep the felted part and just replace cassette player so do i need to buy a specific surround guy in halfords said he had to order me one in for £15? is that right or will i just be able to use surround that comes with new stereo.

na dont have radio keys is it gonna b a nightmare without them? hubby works in a garage hopefully there will be a set there or something they can fashion.

ok ill wait for alex to confirm before making purchase :O)

To fit fog lights you will need:
Fog lights
Fog light grills
H7 bulbs
And a switch with the fog lights on etc
You will also need a few fixings to attach the fog lights to the bumper

The switch is easy to instal as you push the switch in and twist the knob clockwise wich in turn releases it. All you then need to do is simply un plug the switch and put the new one in. As for the wireing for the fogs you firstly need to remove the grills where the fogs will go (simply un-do the one screw and they should just come Away)With this done you the can the locate the wiring tucked up inside. Once found just remove the cap coveing the connector. Plug this in to the fog and then attach the fogs to the bumper and place the new grills on.

On another note it may be worth seeing what the dealer prices are on the parts required as sometimes the prices on eBay are not the cheapest ( from experience)

Hope that helps, wrote this on my phone so sorry if bits don't make sense aha cross fingers it does :)

its impossible without the keys, radios are generally a universal size unless it states double din or something like that the one from whatever sterio you choose should fit,

most garages do have the keys but if not there like three pound from halfrauds.

personally i prefer the double din sterios but for a good one there so expensive,

im torn between these...

and if i really stretch for one this...

nice i like the second one best the blue lit one from halfords! yes its alot for a stereo.
When Icwas 17 and first started driving i spent £350 on a JVC stereo with a sexy little remote then someone broke in and stole the bloomin lot since then i just buy cheap and cheerful its just not worth it (not where i stay anyway lol)

So ill prob spend £100 max - only thing i really need in a front usb port cos ill just loads tunes from pc and take out to car.

so what does double din mean - just that they are bigger than the average?

yeh drives me crazy when u spend ur hard earned cash and someone just helps themselves ggrrr

i need someone to confirm on the fog lights really wanna order stuff tonight! not many folk on though...

was gonna ask..
i used to drive a 1.4l mk4 polo and im finding the new car less nippy, although same engine size, feels like there is a bit of a drag when you put your foot down, slight struggle. MK4 was much quicker through the gears this is my first newish car so maybe its just how newer cars drive (this is my first car thats not over 10 yr old lol) but defo feel a difference,
any views?

When it come to the lights and the switch,OEM parts are expensive

I got my grills from VW along with the fitting parts for the lights (bolts, washers nuts)
the Foglights themselves, i found the cheapest place to be Eurocarparts (not OEM but cant really spot a difference) which were about £38 for both incl postage (i believe Vw charge £50 each)
and the switch i got off ebay for about 10 quid (not OEM, but you wouldnt be able to tell) i think VW charge about £40

the cars already wired up so its all just plug and play :D
