How to Remove Steering Wheel? - *New Strange Nut pictures*

Post by BennoGTi »

With regards to:
http://uk-polos.net/viewtopi ... 43&t=49844

I have decided to just take it appart and have a god with the vauge English translation I have..

So first things first, How the hell do I take the steering wheel off + Airbag without getting a fat lip?

I assume I disconnect the battery to stop the airbag going off, where are the screws located to actually remove the steering wheel and airbag ect.?

Many thanks

Turn the steering wheel 90 degrees.

At the back of the wheel you will find a small opening.

Put a flat head screwdriver in and turn it

There are no screws there is a clip once released one side of the air bag will be released.

Then turn the steering wheel 180 degrees and repeat the above.

Then the wheel air bag can be removed.

Ok im at a bit of a brick wall, can anyone tell me the tool required in order to get this nut off which holds the steering wheel on?

I thought it was a torx bit at first, but it seems to have too many teeth?

Also, it seems quite important since it holds the steering wheel on, im expecting it to be quite tight.. does anyone know the force required in order to do it up again so my steering wheel does not come off when im going down the motorway? :D

Cheers dudes, after a bit of research - im led to believe it's an M12 spline bit, so I have ordered a set from eBay

Does anyone know the torq required in order to fasten the bolt again? Someone with a Haynes manual perhaps?

Thank you! :-)
