Replacing Sidelights With Xenon Bulbs - Help!

Post by b1ondie86 »

Hi, my name is Jen and I'm new here! :D Hi everyone.

I bought a Xenon bulb kit to replace my standard bulbs - managed my main and dipped headlights fine, but now I've come to the sidelights...And I'm not sure if I need to remove the whole headlamp, grill, bumper or if I can just replace them somehow without taking everything out. If anyone has any tips on this at all, it would be much appreciated!

Thanks, Jen.

the sidelights are just the t10, 501 normal bulbs right?. they are the really small bulb in the inner headlight - just remove the smaller rubber cap and as far as i can remember they just twist and pull out. and with the new ones u just push in and twist so that it makes a circuit, you may have to test it one way or the other to make sure the polarities are correct +- and -+. send me a pm if you get really stuck

Yea, them little lights are the ones! Where I've put the xenon bulbs in they are nice and white, but my sidelights are still yellow and it's buggin me. I'm going to have another go at them today, so I'll try and have a proper good look behind the rubber caps. Thanks for your fast reply! If I get stuck I'll PM you. :)

You don't need to twist them, they just pull out.

Try looking through the inner headlight from the outside and you should be able to see the sidelight bulb. It's where Gtimatt has indicated in the photo but it's useful to orient yourself on the actual car. There's a couple of wires leading to a plastic bulb holder which you should be able to grip onto and pull out.

Lol, I've taken a photo of what I can see but don't know how to post it so you can see it! I'm such a dope. I can see the wires and the plastic holder to the sidelight bulb, I try and pull it but it doesn't budge much (I might be a bit scared of breaking something) and the fact the the screw holder to the second bulb is in my fingers way! (and I don't have big fingers). That's why I thought maybe you had to unscrew this and move it out, but if you can do the sidelights without removing that part I'd be much happier.

ahhhh i rememmberr nowww blazeguarder is right, u just need to hook ur finger around the wires and pop the bulb out of the holder that way, then the bulb should just pull out of the plastic holder, sorry i was thinking about sidelights in my old car! lol

Image Alright, try that! It's the picture of what is behind the rubber cap - it doesn't look as bad on the photo but the red circle bit is in the way of me getting a good proper hold on the sidelight plastic holder and giving it a good pull! Just tried again, managed to twist it a little but that's all. Maybe I'm just being weak.

Just hold the wires as close to the bulb holder as possible and give it a good pull. You can try twisting and rocking it a bit to try and loosen it, but it isn't screwed in or anything. It does take a bit of force sometimes to get it out.

You shouldn't need to remove anything else to get at it, just pull on the wires.
