53 1.2 3v polo - problems!!! timing chain

Post by Bwanderas »

Personally and do read up about the 50-54 reg polo's 1.2, 1.4 3/4v, too many new design faults! Ive just paid out nearly £2k to get it fixed and mines only a 53 reg with 60,000 miles.

Timing chain slipped. This is a standard fault as the timing chain is too big. VW are not taking responsibility but when you get fixed, the correct is fitted but at what price ey!! and now my gear box and clutch have gone. After reading up about this particular new design model, problem after problem. I had an N reg one and had no problems at all, but this sounds awful and has cost me way too much given its only done 60,000 miles and had 2 owners!!

get it really checked out if you do decide though by a good mechanic and ask whether the timing chain has been done, if not, insist it is changed as as I said, its a common fault - too big and will slip at some point!

you can try pistonheads.com then click classifieds in the top left.

but for that money id perhaps look at the 6n2 polo you could get a mint one with most extras for that money or a low end spec 9n wich is the one you want...

one of my friends rushed out and bought a polo 9n 1.2 spent 3 and a half grand and it but wasnt patient in loking for one went and got the first one he saw and it has no electrics in it what so ever... and he hates it

*had a quick look and i think your gonna struggle to get one with all the bits you want with a decent spec for that price.
