MK IV is really a MK III???

does anyone know why everyone calls the 94-00 polo a MK IV when its really a MK III (by VW themsleves?)

Its just how its become known. Its mainly due to the fact the VW way is rather confusing. Ie Mk1 Mk2 Mk2F Mk3 MK3F Mk4 Mk4F and so on
