Now winter is well and truly upon us with the -1 temeratures in the morning, crappy rain and snow is due this wekend too
What is everyone doing (or done) to their GTi's to prepare for the next few months?
Also, has anyone experienced any issues down to the weather change as of late? - My GTi has a cold.... The drivers side (passenger) window switch has decided to finally give up, my indicator stalk seems to have developed a brewers droop; it's all floppy and useless and my coolant sensor died a horrible death.. All in one week, it must be coldness related as they all happened the first time I saw minus figures on the temp gauge.
My GTi's behaved so far this winter (Other than the battery dying, but that was due to the boot light!)
I just topped up my screen wash and coolant the other week, haven't a clue what else to do to be honest. Starts fine in the cold and it was 1degree in Cumbria this morning.
G60's are back on with 1 tyre having to be repaired, got it tracked again as it was slightly out and I had the CV joint changed a couple of weeks back.
Oil change is due in 1500 miles but other than that mines fully prepared for the horrible months ahead.
The only thing that really needs to be put right on mine is the rear window seals.
Its not leaking but its pretty loose and needs to be changed sooner rather than later.

The joint itself cost me £41.50 and then I had to pay £40 labour to get it fitted, I had a few other jobs done too so my total bill was £100.
Didnt fancy attempting it myself because its one hell of a messy job, for £80 I thought that was reasonable.
im gonna top up with good old -70 VW screenwash. gonna give it a test cose heaven knows the Halfords stuff doesnt ever go down to what it says on the lable
and thats pretty much it.
He'll probably get tucked up at home, safe and sound on the drive, if the snow gets too bad.
after seeing all the crashed and dented cars last year i dont want to risk it. even if its the other persons fault i dont want the hastle and heart ache.
Had my coolant temp sensor relaced last week too. Also i'm considering putting winter tyres on the g60's as I live at the bottom of a very big hills in every direction & with my curent 'maxxis' tyres it doesn't move at all. Also i'm Getting my BBS refurbed for xmas what a present eh! so G60's can be just for winter months. I'm going to give coilovers a rub down & clean so they don't seize up
And the heated seats get switched on every morning now, they only get used a few months of the year, but you really appreciate them for the first 10mins, but after that it feels like youv'e wet urself.
I am gonna run my BBS rims as they are in need of a refurb and my yoko parada tyres. I have got my screen wash, oil change and service due this month!
I am machine polish and 4 corners sprayed from my mate VW sprayer for £150 all in.
And that will be all. I will be keeping the speed below 115mph in the snow unlike when I brought it and hit 135mph coming back from luton to dorset in the snow last year!!!

GTI's dont rust
Nothing to be worried about, i think people just like looking after their cars a bit more over winter because of all the salt/grit on the road and the cold effects engines and things more than in summer.
