its more of taking precautions. I drive from the coast to london daily so the salt and grit will destroy my car like a 12 year old at garry glitters house.

these engins take a lot of punshment over the years and the cold won't make it better.

I would be freaked out too. What happens if your cars rusts apart over winter?

Nothing to be worried about, i think people just like looking after their cars a bit more over winter because of all the salt/grit on the road and the cold effects engines and things more than in summer.

GTi's do rust, especially now most are 10 years old and stone chipped. They are at that age where corrosion is starting to happen as a result.

Yeah, they are galvanised with a 12 year anti-corrosion warranty, which covers the original paintwork/bodywork from rusting from the inside out. In short, if you have ever polished/t-cut your car to reduce the paint thickness, scratched it, got stone chips or the like than that warranty is void for that area of paint.

Mine has a small amount of corrosion on the bonnet and front wings, caused from untreated stone chips. Dont get me wrong, these are only pin prick in size and have obviously taken years of bare metal exposure to happen, but they are starting to happen.

the only place mine has rusting (that im aware of) is on the rear n/s door seal, which im 99.9% sure is due to a previous owner. maybe a little knock or something? who ever fixed it did a good job spraying, but didnt quite make it rust resistance and its come up over time
i keep a very close eye on all wheel arches and the bonnet for any chips that need sealing with this car.

C'mon, fess up! I am intrigued!

Get a Dry Clean Cloth and squirt some Fairy Liquid on, and wipe it all over the inside of you windows. Grab another Clean Dry Cloth and wipe it off. Always good to just buff it over again with another cloth. If you dont get it all off you end up with a raindow effect you can see from the outside in certain light.

Basically it stops you windows from misting up. My windscreen was doing it really badly and not going away for ages and ages, even with the blowers on full ( probs a mix of something on my glass and also needing a pollen fter change and aircon doing). Its not a sure fire miracle thing, but for me has done a brilliant job. Deff worth a go before spending £8 in Halfords.
I spent ages really scrubbing tho. Did the G40 the day before and didnt spend as long doing it. U could see spots i missed *oops*

I can almost guarantee that none of the previous owners of my GTI took special precautions over winter in past years and it's still in excellent original condition. Look out winter here I come
