polo gti 9n3, any common faults and tuning.
im thinking of buying a polo gti turbo 9n3, can anyone on here list any common problems, i.e like the gearbox problems on the 6n2 gti, any help will be vital, also i know they are 150 bhp standard but what can i do to make i faster and what bhp can they be taken upto with what mods, thank you.
Re: polo gti 9n3, any common faults and tuning.
Well i will list couple of things I have had and see if anyone can add to them:
Gearbox synchro on 1st to 2nd - get a horrible crunch usually when u give it beans and you do a real fast gear change.
Gearbox mountings - they are weak so check for knocking - rock it on the clutch You will hear it if it's present.
Top mounts - these are also weak point on all Vw/Audi I am led to believe
Radiator leak- check coolant level and under car on plastic tray for small drips
That's is pretty much it from my problems anyway!
As regards tuning stage 1 remap with couple of small mods like air filter and re circa valve you looking between 200 -210bhp mate so awesome told me!

There should really be a common faults / mod sticky topic - Like there is in the Polo GTi section.
That's what I think anyway.

Yeah, that sounds like a good idea. I'm thinking of buying one as well, and actually logged on today to post the exact same thing... having any info in one place would be really useful.emma_88 wrote:There should really be a common faults / mod sticky topic - Like there is in the Polo GTi section.

Any chance a mod could start one/convert this into a sticky?

Front bushes seem to be common, but that is usual for a turbo fwd car. And cheap to sort. Apart from that I've had mine and not had a single problem. Regular servicing is key!!!!!
Re: polo gti 9n3, any common faults and tuning.
Aye servicing is the key, but it wouldn't stop the gearbox synchro problem or radiator leaking it's wear and tear
Saying that vdub should make them stronger!

Durky if your having problems with fast gear change at high revs then try an uprated engine mount, keeps everything thighter and should help with gear change and hopefully save your gearbox if your crunching it. peak power is way before redline anyway so its never caused me too much of an issue.
Re: polo gti 9n3, any common faults and tuning.
I haven't it's had all the work Done on warranty only had it since July they have ha more than me but it's fine now. I wasn't the one to realise it had the problem it was a technician who had heard of the fault so tried
To make it do it too said he was just checking it for me , sure enough it had the fault so out it came. I had the car about two weeks at this point. It had new internals a fair few including
New gears!
Had new gearbox mounts also. Only standard as I didn't pay.
Plus I do actually know how to drive so I know peak power I way before same as any turbo petrol or diesel.

Good news!
I wasnt saying you didnt know how to drive btw
As said before an uprated engine mount is good for helping gear change
