What fuel consumption are you getting out of you GTI?

Post by Edi30 »

A bit of a daft question really as you don't buy a GTI to potter about but I am interested in what others get? One of the reasons I changed to a Polo GTI from and ED30 was to save a bit of money especially now V Power is £1.30 a litre.

Anyway now that my car has done 1400 miles and in have done all sorts of driving my best is 44 MPG and the worst is 20 MPG :D Average is 38 MPG so I am getting about 10 MPG better than my old ED30 in almost all situations.

but fuel economy is one of the reason I choose the Polo Gti over Golf and others similar cars so I am glad.

I just cant wait to pick it up now

It willl change as the engine runs in as well, should get a little better.

thats extremelly good tho, i get just over 31 average on remapped 9n3 gti and when you put your foot down it falls to 6 or 7 shockingly quickly

Thanks for the replay. It's great isn't lots of fun, speed and cheaper to run which is all part of the plan so we can have our cake and eat it!

Yes I have seen consumption improve on others cars I have had from new but I am impressed with it so far. Wonder how this will change once modified. How modified is your 9n3?

Just revo stage 1 taking it to 190-200bhp, so not very modified! i hear once you have stage 2 it goes down to around 25-28mpg average.

Its great fun but really drinks it for such a small car.

''whitepologti'' how bad was the economy on the R32? i am tossing up between an edition 30 and an R32, I like the editions engine and tuning capabilitys but you cant get away from the R32's sound and exclusiveness. its just a cut above. and i imagine its a great GT car

Chris, thanks sounds like you have a quick fun and sorted Polo, nice.

The answer to your question ref R32 economy has been provided:

Regarding R32 or ED30, I had the same dilemma about 4 years ago and went for a DSG ED30. I have posted info on this on the New Member thread.

Don't know if you've read the Mk5 Golf GTI/ED30 to Polo GTI thread either as a few of us have gone the other way as running costs such as fuel and road tax are getting too high so us 6R GTI owners are having as much fun in a cheaper to run car.

Cheers,

Yeah cheers I do love it, in the best colour for a 9n3 white.

Hmmm, i think the ed30 is similair tax bracket to the 9n3, but im sure the r32 is much higher.

buying a car like that isnt something you do with your head tho. its more a ''i need this in my life'' urge.

I will have to test drive both and decide from that on economy and just how much quicker it is to my 9n3, and to be honest i dont think there will be a huge difference. It is quicker than the normal mk5 golf gti that i have test driven when i was looking at buying one of those. and hits corners better with the same equipment spec..... tough choices ahead

ED30 was £235 for road tax and R32 is way higher may be £300-400. However as you say these cars are bought with your heart. In fact if I had just gone with my heart I would have gone for the R32 as the ED30 is cheaper to run. However depends what you want as R32 is a very nice Hot hatch/GT and the ED 30 is more focussed feels very quick and is slightly faster in STD trim and is much easier to tune.

If I was to make the same choice again I would have gone for the R32 as these are a dying breed so best get your hands on one while you have a good choice of newish used and they haven't been banned as being too dirty and are possibly worth little. Also the MK6 GTI will be around for a few more years so plenty of time to get one of these and they are very very nice.

I think the edition 30 is the way forward, a top spec with satnav, leather and all the trimmings is probably just as nice as the R32, but the lack of 4wd will give it the light on its feet feel.

With the ed30 being similair priced to buy, lower tax, lower running costs, and almost 300bhp with re-map it would be hard to resist.

Couldn't agree more the ED30 is just such a great all round package and has loads of extras included so any one will have lots of kit. Just depends on wether you want Sat Nav MFSW black rear windows etc. However these are all easily sourced and if you do this you could go for the later equipment found in the MK6 which is nicer. BTW ED30's only come with half leather there was never a full leather option but saying that half leather is the best of both worlds.

Happy hunting.

I had a mk5 r32 chopped it in for the new polo gti and boy is the polo more fun. The golf was nice but heavy and 420 pound a year road tax and 18-20mpg killed it for me.full leather was an option on them. I loved the sound but cryed when many cars beat me with forced induction you will miss the turbo kick trust me get the ed30 or stick with your 9n3 i loved my old polo gti nothing ever really has replaced its magic

Yeah i think i would miss the boost and power delivery. edition 30 it is then or possibly even a new golf gti, they are very nice and almost on par with edition 30 prices.

Thanks for the info guys, just what i needed, a convo with people who have driven both.
