there reason for this is apparently the inlet temps go through the roof with a open cone.
So they don't really mind warm air from the engine bay - maybe the intercooler is forced to work a little harder, but I have had no problems with my K&N
On a mapped car you make the turbo work harder getting hoter so warm up the engine bay more. Basicly colder the air in the better as the cold air helps to keep the blades cooler n helps prevent damge to the blades. A cone with cold air feed is good but just cone with no air feed will be no gain just a noise difference
