Ive had a thought. Ive got a company car - 2006 Polo 9N3 1.4 TDi , had it from new. Last year, I finally had enough of the rubbish-but-at-least-plays-mp3-on-cd OEM stereo, and stuck in a Pioneer 2DIN headunit, which im really pleased with.
Thing is - its a company car, so ive installed he stereo in a way that i can easily replace the OEM components.. so far... just the headunit. So i got a wiring adaptor for the VW headunit to convert it to ISO so that the new Pioneer would connect up.. avoiding cutting into cables, etc etc. (it has meant though, that the Pioneer is never truly off, The power supply seems to be a permanent "on" - but this is ok, i dont mind this).
Anyway. Thats the background. The new stuff, is (in case you caught my other post) is that i decided to add a sub. Im not bothering with the component speakers - its just too much hassle to put them in, and take them out again -stuff that for a game of soldiers.
"But adding a sub", i thought, "could lbe do-able.. and un-do-able". So i got a flat Pioneer TS-WX77A, which ive yet to install.
.. Which is sort of why im writing in.
To get power to the sub, im going to have to prat about in the engine bay, connect up a power cable to the positive battery terminal, and then by some sort of black magic, get the cable from the engine bay into the cabin via evil inventions called "grommets". I just KNOW this is going to cost me a lot of swearing, time, effort, scratches all over my hands, and engine grime, and general twerping about - all to be reversed when i eventually have to remove this thing.
So how about - if i connected a short-ish cable (60A fused) from the battery to the car cabin. The moment it reaches an easily-accesible place in the passenger footwell..
Would it be a good idea if i put the power cable to a decent (and capble of handling the electrical current) cable terminal block, and then have a further 60A-fused power line from THAT to the sub?
In that way - removal just means taking out the cable to the terminal block point, and then nooe of this farting around pulling the cable out, through grommets, and whatever other ungodly obstacles that i have to work around.
would that be in the "Hm. Odd. But could work" box, or is this something that would be filed in the "You wot? Seriously? You could start World War III if you even mention it ever again. Go Directly to Jail - Do Not Pass Go or collect £200" pile?
Sorry for the massive quiz re: this sub thing. As you can tell - im not really into modding cars, or something - basically i just want the result. All this faffing about in the engine , performing the sort of acrobatics that you only see in really difficult games of twister, and trying to make your hand and arm bend like a swans neck just to get a cable from A->B .. and doing it for fun as a hobby - i dont know how you guys do it. fair play. it would just annoy the t**s of me!
aaaaaaaaaaaanyway. terminal block: "NOOOOOO!!!!" or "Hmm... yeah.. suppose so" ?

). You can get 4 AWG through the grommet for the bonnet release cable on LHD cars, but this may take over an hour depending on how competent/cunning you are.
