Lowering springs or Coilovers??

Post by Phixx »

Been looking around and i cant decide whether to get lowering spring or coilovers. Springs are cheaper but I have been told that if i get coilovers that will give me a better ride than springs, hoping some one can give me some advice on what to do.

cheers

prob bout 30mm or 35mm not too low but lower than standard (which is ridiculously high lol), dont want too much of a rough ride but i no lowering will make it more of a firm ride

To be honest the difference in ride between coilies and springs ins't that different really but the thing is, if you buy springs you always want to maybe it that little bit more and so coilies are the better option, and if your ride is firm enough it stops people in your family using your car for day to day use when your not around  but you still are looking good ;)

I'm in the same boat. Looking for just a small drop so the car looks less tractor like but still "OEM" to the untrained eye. Don't know what that would be - maybe 20mm? I'm assuming springs would be the cheaper option so which ones would you all recommend as I have no idea of where to start - links would be great!

Thanks in advance

How about the Eibach kits. Which one is best?

As my car car is a 1.4 16v sport is the sus already slightly lowered?

I bought the Eibach kit for mine a few weeks ago:

Say lowers 20mm but thats becasue the GTi is 15mm lower as standard, so on a standard car they will take it 35mm

Im really happy with how they ride, much more level in conering yet still a very comfortable semi-stiff ride

If your looking for lowering 15mm from standard, I have my GTi springs for sale atm:

I bought the same Eibach kit and had them fitted last week (on my tdi). Keeps the car looking very OEM in my opinion and not ott. The springs were fitted along with 16" alloys and i think the handling is greatly improved. Yes the ride is firmer but for me thats and improvement on the wallowy standard set up and body roll is reduced as you'd expect. I would rather fit a set of £120 springs than a budget coilover kit.

I bought mine from venom motorsport and the person i spoke to highly recommended the Eibachs and H&R kits but they do do others also.
