Hi,
how are these on fuel on average? How many miles from a tank and how much does a tank cost? Normal use will be 700 miles per month mostly at 50-60 mph.
Many thanks in advance
9n3 Gti running costs?
Re: 9n3 Gti running costs?
Hi there
The cost of a tank is about £56 (Based on a litre at 125.9p per litre)
Economy wise at 50 -60mph I would want to be getting 40-43mpg. Its easily possible. On what I consider as my type of combined cycle driving (mixture of motorway, dual and town/traffic driving and the odd bit of mad 3rd gear foot to floor acceleration) I normally get 36-38mpg
Range on a tank I always reckon roughly 350miles, but when the fuel meter reads 0miles, I know I still have a gallon left in the tank and if need be, can do 40miles more. I think the most I have got out was 415miles on one tank.
Hope that helps
Andy

Re: 9n3 Gti running costs?
All sounds good as above, but beware.
It can become very thirsty if you have a heavy right foot or you stop start alot.
My work run is town then national speed limit with lots of twistys then town again and i get around 28-32 mpg average on a tank. And thats with a good 3 or 4 minute blast once a week maybe (lets be honest who doesnt?)
Speeding up is fine as long as you stay off boost, once you hit it it drops to single figure mpg in any gear...
So if you want prius economy then this isnt the right car. but if you want a good all rounder with deccent power to pull you out of the corners and enough off the mark beans to shock other ''quick'' cars then its great.

Servicing costs as well, minor service £140
major £240
Cambelt £550
But if you did a poll
Who regrets buying their gti due to running costs? I doubt a single person would vote yes
so its not all bad.

Re: 9n3 Gti running costs?
my stage 2 revo gti (233bhp & 291ft/lb torque) with plenty of other engine and performance modifications gives me very few miles back from a tank but more smiles per mile than anything i have ever driven, really can be properly quick pocket rockets with the right parts fitted,
i change my cars religiously every 2 years but have had this for over 4 years now and still wont be parting with it for anything else out there
i normally have a town style commute and a heavy foot
most i have ever seen is 220 miles for a tank now its all modified but god its fun
i get roughly 18 - 28 mpg depending on conditions and driving style

Thats a very heavy foot
Re: 9n3 Gti running costs?
It's not that heavy to be honest but the state of tune and 20+psi boost needs a lot of feeding
Re: 9n3 Gti running costs?
if you are worried about fuel why not look at a 1.9 tdi pd130 not far behind a gti and with a remap will give you a respectable 170ish bhp. its just if you can do without the gti badge, i get around 450 miles to a tank in mine with a slightly heavy right foot
