I saw this review before placing my order.

He's proberbly right, the Polo GTi proberbly isnt the best handling or the fastest supermini hot hatch around.

But not everyone wants that "raw-ness" day in day out, i personally would prefer a more refined car with 90% of the thrills.

Don't let this review put you off, atleast go for a test drive in one, trust me you will get a smile when you here the revvy twincharged 1.4 for the first time!!

If your looking for a small hot hatch with a bigger car feel, I think the fact the 6R GTi is a rare sight on the roads is that we all mistake them for a the Golf GTi , you can't go wrong with the Polo. Anyways i digress I feel the Polo gives you the best of both worlds, with the DSG box Im truely converted! Its a cracking package, cracking looks, hot hatch performance, and cheap running costs, this is without even mentioning the German build quality and reliability...

Well said, I agree as I think VW are moving the game on by offering a car which is better all round rather than focused in one area. The Polo is following the same path as the Golf GTI has done for so long. After all what has almost always been rated as the best hot hatch. I you want raw then go to another brand and there is nothing wrong with that it now means there is more choice in this sector.

Or just make it more raw if that's what you want I never go off reviews as I change the car to how I want it lower louder and faster make it my own something unique which is what Vw has been about for years right from campers to golfs

Agree with chris above ^^^^

VW have made this car a little more performance orientated out of the box this time though. Forced induction will always be easier to get better (alot better) performance out of for a small amount of money.

Another review and another opinion blah blah. The fact there is choice and competition means we all get better cars. You pay your money and make your choice.

I don't really mind what mags say VW invented the Hot Hatch and the GTI name, therefore it will always be the original and best. :D I have been driving GTI's for over 16 years and I love them. I am really glad the Polo is more grown up as I now own a Polo as I had a Golf Edition 30 before. It means just as much fun and much cheaper running costs.

The result of the drag race looks about right compared to how both of these feel on the road. The race on the track was not really a proper comparison as the Polo driver was going in way too fast in to corners over braking and slowing too much and therefore carrying no speed through the corner unlike the driver of the Golf. The flying lap was may be better but with out seeing each lap we don't know if they were both done without errors. Interesting though. Thanks.

I would have to disagree on that one. Having both and the benefit of living with them back to back ever day and if I had to make a choice in keeping just one I would take the Golf and the deciding factor for me is the size and further practicality it offers. However if you asked which I would choose just to take for a drive it would be the Polo as it's more fun :D
