Hi everyone
Had my GTI for 2 months now, my last car was a Golf ED30 that I had for 3 years which handled supremely.
Due the the weather I haven't really been able to push the Polo as much as I'd like but over the last week I've been really giving it the beans.
I can be 'pushing on' at similar speeds as I'd do in the Golf over A+B roads I know well and I'd go over some rough tarmac and the car shakes and can sometimes seriously move across the road. Today even the ESP kicked in while doing it! It seriously frightened me as the car moved towards the oncoming traffic. These undulations wouldn't even register in the Golf. Is it due to the torsion bar setup and I should just slow down? Or is there something more sinister at work? I've heard many stories about transit chocks being left in place at PDI but I've had a good mooch around up there and can't feel anything.
I would go and give it to a local dealer to see what they think, but I'm 20 miles from any of them so would appreciate your input and experience before I make a special trip.

Re: Scary GTI Suspension?
I've driven 2 GTi's, the first was a demonstrator, and the second my brand new one. Mine still had the Transit blocks still in the suspension and the dash rattled like hell over the bumps, the suspension was solid!!
Where as the demonstrator was fine on the same route!
So im summary im sure you'd know if the blocks were left in!

You know, that sounds almost exactly like what it feels like. The dash does rattle like that sometimes. I've booked into the dealers on Wednesday, will see what happens

I suppose its possible that they'd get forgotten especially if the GTi was the only Polo to come through with the blocks fitted.....

Re: Scary GTI Suspension?
You would know if the blocks were in there is no suspension to speak of when in. Plus the ride height is much higher about 50mm higher than standard.
I came from an ED30 and the ride in the Polo is more bouncy and on uneven surfaces the car will buck and the traction light will come on
The Polo is a lot lighter so dies not soak up the bumps as well. I don't tend to drive the Polo as hard for that reason but it's just as much fun at a lower speed.

Re: Scary GTI Suspension?
I guess you're right. The unladen weight of an ED30 5-door is nearly 200kg more than a 3-door Polo GTI. That would certainly make a difference. Perhaps it's time I slowed down or maybe petition the council to re-tarmac our roads!
Thanks for the assist

ED30 has the sort of character that makes you want to drive it like you stole itwobbler wrote:I guess you're right. The unladen weight of an ED30 5-door is nearly 200kg more than a 3-door Polo GTI. Thanks for the assistI must admit used to drive mine too fast really so I am pleased with the Polo as I am enjoying it just as much but not risking my licence every time I get in it.
