Multifunction display

Post by Carol »

Having just taken delivery of our brand new Polo 1.2TSI SEL with loads of goodies, I was pretty disappointed to see that the multifunction display kept showing speed in km/h when moving. When the vehicle isn't moving, the display switches to total mileage (odometer). Frankly, I'm not terribly interested in my speed in km/h (what with having a whacking great big dial showing my speed in mph), and would much prefer to see the odometer all the time. The manual is pretty unhelpful in this regard so I'm hoping that someone here might be clued up on this. Here's a picture showing the display whilst static:

Apparently you are supposed to press the button labelled "this button" in my photo three times. The odometer in the combi-instrument display then allegedly flashes (mine doesn't - all I get is a display with a spanner showing the next service interval, I think). I'm then supposed to press the 0.00/SET button once to change display - pressing this button does nothing.

Any ideas?
(btw, we have the multifunction steering wheel, but there are no buttons on the right of it - only the left to control the stereo).

Another gratuitous shot of the display showing delivery mileage (25 miles). Lord knows what they'd been doing to it before we took delivery!

Hey although i cant be masses of help as i dont personally have one of the new polos, my boyfriend works at VW and gets to play with the new VWs all the time. Hes a bit distracted at the mo but he said "if the car has all the extras you said ( meaning me; i told him about your car earlier when i looked at your thread and said that u mentioned it had lots of extras) There should be controls on the end of ( I think the wiper) stalk. This is the main way to control the display. ( apparently same in my mates 09 plate Audi who I'm also with)
I hope this is some help. I know it's not much but should at least get you started. If you need more info I'll try and get it out of him when he's free.

Yeah, there's a rocker switch on the end of the wiper stalk (unhelpfully labelled "trip") which only toggles the display above the trip (showing as temperature in my first photo) through things like mpg, average speed and suchlike. Thanks anyway.

The dispaly shown as "97miles" in the picture above should be able to be changed to kilometers per hour by rotating through the settings using "set". When this flashes press set and you should get KPH or total mileage thus far.

My display is in kilometers and litres and show MPH when I do this...

'Fraid not on my Polo. Pressing the "0.0/SET" button seems to do nothing; pressing and holding it resets the trip counter (72.4 miles in my first picture). Maybe it's just not possible, but I do wish that the user manual made things a bit clearer.

You can't change it, the reason it does that is the UK law requires the vehicle to display the speed in KM/H, and the dials only read in MPH. Its exactly the same on nearly all new VAG vehicles and Mercedes-Benz.

That's right because there is no kph on the main display so needs a digital one
