detailing my silver 9n

hi all last year i borrowed my friends machine polisher, clayed my car then simply polished it with super resin polish (autoglym) came out really well! but only got rid of small swirl marks im rather confused to how it all works with the correct pads and cutting polishes and what have you...
all of your advice is needed
machine wise i was either going to buy the meguiars g220 or the dodo joice rotary polisher...
