6N2 gear gator

Post by I-Roo »

okay ive had this gear gator rotting away in a box for ages now and its about time i fitted it yet i have no clue how to do this... i don't want to break anything as the car is in a bit of a fragile way as it is. also the grey trim that runs up the front of the passangers door pillar/windscreen has a horrible black mark down it and i want to refurbish it opr get a new part so does anyone have a part number or a guide?

thanks roo

  • The old gear gaiter is fiited under a plastic trim
pull upwords on the trim that you should be able to do that by hand
Take the bottom of the gaiter off the trim
Then you should be able to pull the gear knob off by hand
Turn the gaiter inside out and you will see a black plastic part holding the gaiter to the knob
Useing a flathead screw driver easy that away from the knob
The gaiter should now be free from the gear knob
place the gear knob inside the new gaiter
Using a flathead screwdriver BUT BE CAREFULL tuck the new gaiter under the know
next bring the black plastic part back up over the gear now and again being carefull tuck the gaiter between that and the knob.
Once that is done you should be able to lift the gear know with out the gaiter coming off
Put the plastic trim back inside the gaiter, if your gaiter has elastic around the bottom its easy
then put your gear knob back to the gear stick
push it all the way down as far as possible
when down as far as possible refit the plastic trim
I hope you will be able to understand this, it aint as hard as it sounds.

Forgot to say One little tip is to try and line the stitching up with the middle of the gear know. It aint that easy to do and it may take you a few goes but its worth it in the end.
