How much oil does the 1.8T hold?

Post by chris meardon »

going to do a full service myself

How much oil do i need to buy?

Going to use 0w30 fully synthetic castrol edge

As well as the NGK plugs as these seem the best? Is that right?

Carried out services on all of my other cars, is there anything specific i need to know when doing the 1.8t? never serviced one of these before.

5litres should be more than enough and leave you a bit left over if needed.

choice of oil and filter is excellent mate,

the engine holds between 4.25 litres and 4.5 litres from empty to full,

draining oil is as per any other car, plug is at the front of the sump near the electrical connector

the oil filter is as per a normal filter to rempve / fit

air filter, easy regardless if your running a cone or pannel filter

pollen filter is under the passenger side of the dashboard, clamp slides across then its hindged, faalls down and so does the filter

to do the plugs you need to remove the engine cover then locate the 4 coils on the top of the block , they are pencil coils and require proper access as they are deep and metal nor rubber so not flexible, so you need to undo and move the engine cover mounting plate to allow you to remove the covered items, unplug the coils from the wiring harnesses and simply pull them straight up, then remove the plug and refitting is just the opposite of this

piece of p***,

Thanks for the info Jeff, I know some cars have their own qwerky ways of doing things which are often arse about face but nice to know mines simple.

Did you notice much of a difference in economy/ running quality with the NGK sparks?

Ive ordered them up but they were almost double the price of OEM standard ones....

Factory VW/AUDI supplied spark plugs for Polo GTIs are NGK Platinums. I heard that buying OEM actually ends up being more expensive. Just replaced mine yesterday after 52000km / 5 years.
