Who owns a bluemotion on here? Particularly a remapped one

Post by Tim_GTi »

Hey guys,

I say I'm selling up every year, but at the rate I'm going I really can't afford the miles I'm doing in my mark5 GTi.

I've been looking at a 9N3 bluemotion. Over double the MPG and no tax is highly attractive.

Performance wise, they're the same weight, bluemotion tiny bit more torque, bit obviously a fair bit slower.

So I was thinking a bluemotion with a nice remap will be a reputable choice.

Anyone on here own a bluemotion who can share some info? Particularly one with a remap?

Thanks!

What do you want to know?

Don't own a bluemotion, but have a 1.4 TDI (same engine) with a remap, so I'll help all I can. Also driven a 2009 bluemotion that belongs to a lass I know.

Figures!

Do you know BHP, torque & 0-60 before and after?

As it stands, the Bluemotion is the same weight as the mk5 GTi, and slightly more torque. All great, but it's around 4 seconds slower at accelerating than the GTi.

I don't want to feel like I've downgraded in cars if nothing happens when the pedal hits the floor.

I know it's obviously going to be a compromise, coming from a 16v engine with VVT. But it is a diesel engine, so torque will definitely be on my side.

If a remap will seat a Bluemotion under the 10 second 0-60 mark, I'll be sold I think.

I've never bothered with 0 - 60, I'm more interested in how it performs in the real world, ie 40 - 80. I put out just under 105bhp and 180ft/lbs of torque.

I'd go test drive a stock 1.9 TDI PD100 and see what you think. A remapped 1.4 will be (negligably) quicker.

Sorry for the late reply.

Of course, 0-60 figures are not essential nor necessary in the real world. they're just a good point of reference really. 40-80 is definitely more useful, how do you find your car performs in this department?

I'd expect the Bluemotion figures to be very similar to yours, it appears the only major changes between the engines are different filters and gear ratios.

Proving to be really hard to find the right bluemotion, there aren't very many for sale! I'm open minded for both the 1.4 and 1.9 TDis also at the minute.

I thought you were looking for a Skoda Fabia vRS Tim?

The 1.4 PD TDI engine can be tuned from 78bhp to around 105-108bhp with a standard stage 1 re-map.
I wouldnt advise going any further than that in the event of turbo problems but some lads have seen 112-115bhp with a few extras such as panel filters & free flowing exhausts.

As standard they are around 0-60 in 12.4 seconds so realistically you could knock off around 2 seconds of that time, but with diesels as you mentioned its all about 30-70mph more than anything else, they are well known for having poor 1st gears so you loose alot of time from that.

Torque figure will rise from 144ft lbs to around 185-190 which equates to roughly 250Nm (195Nm standard).
When you think the MK5 GTI only has 112ft lbs (152Nm) its pretty impressive for a small Diesel engine.

i owned a black 3dr bluemotion after the 1.8t polo

and it was brilliant got min 450 miles out of a tank no matter how you drive it got 44 - 48 mpg on local rd driving didnt have it remapped didnt really feel the need to be hounest i had ours on coilies and 16" schmidt modernlines and it looked fab

they are not as slow as you would expect lovley orque curve 4th and 5th gear are the only different gear ratios 1 2 and 3 are standard just 4th and 5th are emmensly long to get mpg

only issue we had with it was the dfp light coming on once every two months but it can be reset yourself driving at 40mph in 3rd for 15 mins to clear the filter

i could recommend to get one interior are a bit drizz though get dirty so fast
