Paint traces on rear bumper?

Post by aaronon »

Hey guys,

Someone in a car park while reversing out of a space in their hideous yellow car have left paint scratchings on my Polo and driven off.

Does anyone know what to do?

Can you just scrape off the yellow paint? . . . or is it more serious than that :S

Thanks for any help.

Aaron.

Howdy,

you could try a decent car polish or tar remover. I have used both to remove nasty bits and bobs off my car. The polish/wax swirl remover i use does all three and gets rid of tar and excess gunk.

Might be worth a shot first off.

Hey,

Thanks for the reply. . .what exactly do I do with the polish remover? Only put it on the pain scratchings? Will it remove the normal paint around the new paint? I'm afraid I'll turn my car all patchy lol.

The bumper also has a small crack in it where someone hit me, so I'm thinking maybe I should leave it and then pay £250 for a whole new bumper lol.

Decisions decisions :(

You could try something like Autoglym Paint Renovator. It's a paint cutting compound, so it removes very thin layers of clearcoat from the paint to remove small scratches. It should have no problem removing paint transferred from another car.

Bear in mind though that there may still be damage underneath the transferred paint. You might be better off getting a new bumper since you say you already have damage from before.

Thanks for the answers!

I actually have that autoglym product as part of a set!

I wouldn't mind getting the new bumper in a month or so when I'm ready to blow money on insurnace.

The only problem is , I had an E polo so had plastic bumper strips. The bumper strips primed, and ordered from the dealers and then painted and fitted by a garage came in at like 400+ so God knows what a bumper would cost me :O.
