GTi Still Keeping Value

Post by waveydavey »

Just been to the local dealers today to book my car in and noticed they had a red Polo GTi in the forecourt. 51 reg and on at £9995. Looks like the ol' polo GTi is keeping it's value at the moment.

I'm sure i read somewhere (Maybe VW Driver mag), That the mk1 Golf GTi owners were looking at the cars as they were about the same size etc...... and that they are expected to be big enthusiasts cars in the future.

Cheers

Dave.

Hmmm.... The problem is that VW dealers aren't afraid to ask mega bucks for them but if you actually look at the trade in value it aint always so good.

eg. Mine. Y-reg Polo GTI - 14k miles - only offered £6.5k in against a new Civic Type-R. I figure a VW garage would sell it for bout £9k

Still. 50% value retained after 3 years aint that bad I suppose.

I know what you mean but i was comparing the price today to prices on dealers forecourts etc.... a year ago when i was looking around for mine.

In January 2003 almost all the 51 plate cars i saw on either the VW website or on dealers forecourts were around the £10500-£11000 price so what i meant was the price had only dropped by around £500 in just over a year.

Cheers

the dealers can sell them for what they like, or at least try to but when it comes to giving you a sensible price trade in you`ve got no chance. I was offered 6250 against an import S3 at 18k, i laughed at the salesman, told him if he offered me about 10k for my polo i might think about it. i left shortly after that (before he threw me out). must confess i enjoyed the drive home in my GTi as much as the testdrive in the S3, ok so i`m 100hp down and only 2wd but thats just minor points.

I'm going to buy my gti in july, so been keeping an eye on the prices. see some going for 6K useally fairly high milage 60,000+ then anything between 6.5k and 7.5k for a lower mileage one. Any at the vw dealers seem to be 8k+ Hopeing to find a silver 3 door for about £6500 this give me some spare more to play with it  !!

Yeah I was surprise to see the prices of the GTI holding pretty well but then I realised this is how much I would be paying if I was to buy one not the cash I would get for mine, dealers can charge higher prices and I've noticed that dealers around the UK sell them at different prices although the cars are of a similar mileage and age.

I think that the GTI being in limited numbers helps to keep the value up as my dealer said as soon as they come in they leave the forecourt!
