Took a few ones at work : gives a general idea on stance. Need to go down abit on the rear though.

Re: Joe's 3rd Gti Progress Thread
Looks very smart Joe
Top job on the wheels too they have come up really well
I would say your plenty low enough at the moment, you dont want to go too low otherwise you will loose the performance benefits of the coilovers. What other updates can we expect next then?

Re: Joe's 3rd Gti Progress Thread
yeah i think im just at the limit of it being semi-practical..
Update wise there won't be much till June, as im off to Thailand for 6 weeks next week..
However i will update once i've fixed this BLOODY front coilover knocking noise, took off and re fittied for the sixth time this evening. Starting to think its either the bumpstops somehow. Alex mentioned the Wishbone bushes- but no play or degredation sign in them.
Was supoosed to get it all tracked properly tommorow morning- but cancelled that as i can see myself taking the whole suspension set-up apart soon enough. hmpph!

Re: Joe's 3rd Gti Progress Thread
6 weeks in Thailand sounds immense!
Sounds like one of those annoying little noises that are hard to put right, mine is still creaking on the drivers side rear but its bareable at the moment. I pressume your pretty close to the lowering limit on the front?

Re: Joe's 3rd Gti Progress Thread
Funninly enough, since removing and refitting this eve, the drivers side has become even noisier, even though last week it was quieter than before after the 5th refit.. it seems the noise changes in volume everytime i refit..
Heres some pics of the assembly, i've tighten the top nut on wuntil it gets tight. I then tighten the rest once its on the car. It gets to a point where the rubber twists if i try to tighten the nut any further..

Definitely not anything hitting anything as i've been FAR lower than i am now, with no problems whatsoever.
Heres a video recorded in the drivers wheel arch while i rock the car from side to side, up and down, you can quite clearly here the noise.

Oh and here's a better wheel pic:

Re: Joe's 3rd Gti Progress Thread- Knocking Noise Vid Inside
So are we talking about the squeak or otherwise?
The pics look correct. The top mount looks ok, albeit worn. Id possibly look to replacing those and the axial groove bearing rings that sit inside

Re: Joe's 3rd Gti Progress Thread- Knocking Noise Vid Inside
Yes that noise as such in the video. I refitted both coilovers with new topmount bearings and cups aswel over the W/E; which made no difference at all. Interestingly when i de-greased and greased the main shock piston it did mute the noise some what
May be down to knackered shocks- although they still perform brilliantly and don't show the usual traits of a knackered shock..
