Dumbass Guide to amp wiring....

Hi,
Dr. Dumbass here (and yes I do have a PhD), I got my shiny new Mk5 yesterday, and I like it very much, but I thought it was time to stick my sub in. I have a nice sub that came out of my old car. It has a remote power as well as the normal BAT+ connector.

Two things:

1: I have the Gamma Radio with CD, will I have to convert the level from the hi-level outputs to the rear speakers to go to my amp or is there a pre-out cunningly included with this radio?

2: IS there a handy power out on the radio I can use to switch my amp on. In my old car, I connected a relay to the aerial feed and that switched the amp on automatically. Neat eh? But what now?

Its not like I don't know electronics, its just that someone will have done it before me, thought they might have some pearls of wisdom.

BTW - I don't have a radio code, but I'm told the power can be safely cut because the radio is coded to the car- would you agree with this?

Hi there

You need an autoleads adapter for the back of the Gamma... They're about 15 quid from Halfords...

This has 4 Phono Outputs and a Remote Lead!

Regarding the radio code... It should be ok, but if it's not, you can get the code from your VW Dealer.

well, thats kind of it then. nothing for me to do except run the cables. can I plug sub in to power socket in the boot? because, its about 350W, but by my calculations should not really draw much more than 100W RMS, which after all is less than the 120W rating.

This car kicks ass. I fell in love with your car actully when you were showing me your stereo at the aquadrome. I got my own now. Its only 75BHP, but seems to go well, and doesn't cost a fortune to feed on insure.

you can get the radio code for free, I got mine within an hour the other day!

I can't find the leads anywhere. Please help, what exactly do I need ? From what I gather, there are three sockets on the gamma. One of them has pre outs for all the channels, plus a switched live. So all I need is a plug to fit that. But I can't find what I need. When shops look up Gamma radio, they don't find the leads.

Also, can you tell me how to get the surround off? Or do I need to get the keys for the radio?

PS- if anyone finds the lead online, please email me with the address and I'll buy.
