squeeky brake pedal!

Post by jon_poloV »

does anyone know how to cure a squeeky brake pedal! it is coming from outside the car, it is not the brakes themselves but the pedal, especialy when you depress the pedal. for example when depressing the brake pedal when stationary it squeeks then. is it a case of wd40 or something?
cheers

I used to have this on my mk2, it was simply a case of spraying a good bit of WD40 on the pedal hinge, that usually cures it. Now I just need to cure the squeaks from the brakes themselves :)

if its not coming from inside the car its probably your rear drums to make sure it is the rear hold the handbrake button inand pull it up and down if it is the rear you should hear it when doing that also! if so you need to take the rear drums off and lubricate the friction points of the shoes and the backing plates :)

if you dont have drums at the back dont pay any attention to me then!!!

if you dont really know what your doing i would leave it to someone who does ,any compotent mechanic should be able to do this!!
they should charge you 1hr and a half at the most.

your rear shoes should definetley not be worn as ive not changed mine and ive done 90k.

they should also adjust the handbrake while doing the job. :D

theres 2 ways to adjust the handbrake.

you can adjust it from just behind the lever itself and also from the rear shoes also.

funny you shud mention that cos my car just went in for an Mot at LEKA in buntingford (if ya know where i mean Jon) and after they tinkered with it, doing wat they do, my brake pdeal squeeks aswell :?
o and the car failed its Mot :(
on two front tyres and my LHD rear lights not surprising really, i'll just swap my old red units back for a re-test then put my smoked ones on after

mine faild this year too aaaa.
i had two new tyres put on my car 2 weeks ago then somewhere eles to have tracking done, and i tell you wow that is a well worth 23 quid! and it was done at a quickfit1 in hertford they are realy good at tracking. also they fixed my crooked steering wheel! so now when i go straight its straight! instead of it always being off.
why o why do we give our cars to people to fix etc when we get them back they are worse!! aaaa
i hope the brakes will stop squeaking soon. im going to run a hosepipe to the rear and wash the rear drums out i thnk

Jon did you get the squeek sorted?
Reason why I ask is because mine have started squeeking too. Im gonna go and test them today and find out if its the front our rear, by using the hand brake and tryin to listen lol.
