oil top up

Post by dub6n2 »

I need to top up the oil and the one I use is finished, can I use another brand(mix 2 brands of oil). they are both of the same weight and viscosity of 10W-40W and one says it is synthetic based and one part synthetic(both sound the same for me). thanks

You could mix them but it prob aint the best idea, I would not do it, I know this is no help but someone who knows their stuff will tell you whats best.

thanks for the input mate, looked it up on google and most of them said that as long as they are both of the same weight...in this case both are 10-40w, and both semi synthetic(as I think both are in my care) it should be fine...

mine are both part synthetic i assumed, as one says part synthetic and the other is synthetic based(not fully synthetic)...not sure though, might as well just change all the oil then, surely does no harm. what ratings do you use? is 10-40w fine?

I have not had to top mine since the last service. But I do kept a small bottle of part synthetic 10 - 40w in just in case.

When it comes to the mechanical side of things I aint to hot.

10W40 is always part synthetic/synthetic based/semi synthetic

It can have various names

There is no issue mixing different brands as long as you use good quality oil of the same viscosity rating.
