Speed camera flashed - 38 in a 30 zone
Hello,
This morning I've triggered a static camera outside a fire station on a city street, I reckon I was doing 38 in a 30.
Couple of things, I guess it's pretty likely there's film in the camera? Also will I get the option of a driving course instead of the points? (my licence is currently clean). Also what affect will it have on fully comp insurance (not due for renewal until December with Hastings Direct)?
Cheers,
Isaac

TBH mate, i dont think youll get the offer, its usally upto about 5mph above the limit. Also, depends whether the camera was a digi or the older film type gatso. If digi, your f**kd. If gatso, youve got about a 1/10 chance of gettin caught. Youll know within 2 weeks. As for 3 points, doesnt usually affect your insurance, possibly £50ish, its normally 4 points or more that impact it alot. Hope that helps.

If you don't hear within 2 working weeks your in the clear, as even after 2 weeks legally it can't count, 38 in a 30 is bad, as you only get a 10% allowance I.e. 33mph in a 30, 44 in a 40, 66 in a 60 etc, if it's not too late you could always put a tyre full of Petrol around it and burn it lol.
Speed cameras where I live have all been turned off, local council can't afford to run them anymore

Cheers, I was more worried about the insurance going through the roof than the points and fine.
Two week countdown starts today.
Thanks,
Isaac

This sounds stupid -_- When I was visting England last weekend, the taxi driver was going 100mph on the highway. Actually, several did. All we used who went on the motorway went 90-110. I though you were a bit slack over there?

Sounds like you're insurance might take a bit of a hit mate. They go for any excuse to up your premium - I was hit from behind at Christmas, didn't claim or anything but informed them anyway (big mistake). Cost jumped by about £200. Legalised theft...
That said, my speedo overreads slightly, so maybe you just scraped in under the limit? I thought the rule was 10% + 2mph or something like that, not sure how accurate that is though.

Nope, cameras everywhere mate. Pretty much everybody does over the limit on the motorway so only the worst ones actually get stopped by the law, but they are pretty common on city/normal roads.Joz wrote:This sounds stupid -_- When I was visting England last weekend, the taxi driver was going 100mph on the highway. I knew it was 10% +2mph but then I think it got reduced to just the 10%. I may be wrong.

It was a yellow camera, one of the single flash newer ones so I reckon I'm screwed. Just hope I squeeze into the driving course instead of points bracket.
Cheers anyway,
Isaac
