Im not a fan of converting a double din to a single din personally but each to their own

I went for the Pioneer AVH-3300BT (Double Din) - Suits the car really well imo and has loads of great features built in.

You can get the single din conversion facias from eBay or Vag link, double or single, aftermarket head units are very easy to fit, especailly in a "well known" car/brand, loads of people make addaptors, connectors, facias ect. for them so not much hunting round :)

I went for a double DIN one as well. I'd recommend the Pioneer headunits, really easy to use and look pretty good as well. I went for one that had customisable backlighting so it matched the interior lights as well, which is another feature I'd recommend going for if you can find one.

With regards to fitting, it's generally a really easy job to do. Hardest bit of mine was routing the cable for the ipod connection into the glovebox, and that didn't take long at all. If you go for a single DIN unit, then VW do a cubby box insert that you can get from the stealers for the bottom half of the hole. Otherwise, you just need a canbus adapter and an aerial booster and you're good to go mate.
