My standard lights on my gti are useless, when driving through country lanes at nighttime i can barely see in front of me. I want to upgrade to hid or xenon (same thing?). Or just upgrade the bulbs. If you have any info on what to use please let me know.
Also i want to upgrade the daytime running lights so they have like a blue tinge to them?
Thanks Darren

Re: Hid xenon upgrade kit for gti
Hey, i bought my polo when it just came out so didnt have a choice of original xenons, but i did get a HID kit fitted, both the same thing from what i've learnt!darrenpolo wrote:My standard lights on my gti are useless, when driving through country lanes at nighttime i can barely see in front of me. Got the kit (GT HID conversion around £120) and fitting wasn't too hard!
The results were brilliant

Did you had to tap the wires into the main harness?? How did you do that?? did you have a diagram from VW themselves?
Re: Hid xenon upgrade kit for gti
You dont need to tap into any wiring on the car. When you buy a hid conversion kit, you get 2 ballasts with built in resistors for the canbus system, and each bulbs plugs directly into the ballasts. Then you have 2 prongs which plug into the original power lead from the cars wiring loom. Takes all of about 15-20 mins to fit properly and neatly. Easy job mate.

Exactly how NMavs said!
I recommend taking your time and stuff though, dont want to rush anything and wreck it!
I think i cut one hole on the rubber seal for light too much, now air gets in and causes condensation in the left headlight during winter :/

Reason i asked, was when i installed one in my Golf 6 GTI, i had to cut into the main wires, so that the light can switch on when i switch the car on..NMavs wrote:You dont need to tap into any wiring on the car. Kufatec are selling the full, OE upgrade kit with the levelling sensors etc included, not just HID blulbs that will blind the crap out of all the other road users around you, perhaps take a look at this route, my eyes are still recovering after the honda prelude with a "retro-fit" instal blinded me on the way to work this morning....
