Value My Car // Thinking about selling...

Post by JamieG172 »

......So the time has come where I need to part with my beloved dub because I need a bigger car and a diesel for the hundreds of motorway miles I'm now doing. I shan't be going far, I'll be looking at a TDI in a Polo or a Golf, and possibly Ibiza's and A3's...... Ideally would want a GT TDI Golf Mk V, or a 9n3 1.9tdi. I am not in a huge rush to sell the car as I have spent a lot of time and money keeping the car in pristine condition, being washed at least once a week and waxed once a fortnight, with AUTOGLYM Shampoo/Conditioner & Wax, being applied and removed by hand, then buffed with an electric buffer.

So, car looks like this:

2003 "52 plate" VW Polo 9n 1.2 (65)
Low Mileage, Excellent conditon.
52,096miles

Upgrades (not "modifications", so only thing that had to be declared to Insurance Company were the tinted windows, and they charged me £30 one-off fee)

- Set of 4 Excellent Condition Genuine VW BBS 16" Monza Alloy Wheels (That come on the 9n3 GTI) (one has a very small scuff) , 2 tyres with a decent amount of tread, and two brand new Pirelli P Zero - Nero's fitted on the fronts (Tyre size 205/45/16, cost £95 each)
- Rear 3 windows tinted (legal, professionally fitted)
- Twin-Pipe Chrome Exhaust Tip
- 9n3 Rear Light Clusters
-Professionally sprayed and fitted Genuine VW Votex Roof Spoiler
- Xenon Bulb Upgrade in headlights ("E" Marked, Road Legal)
- "Superwhite" sidelights to match headlight colour ("E" Marked, Road Legal) (Can also provide the LED sidelights I bought, which I found too blue looking compared to headlights).
- Chrome door handles
- Chrome Numberplate Surrounds
- Set of 4 rubber mudflaps - with "POLO" and "VW" on them in white writing
- Face-off "Tevion" stereo with Bluetooth/MP3/USB/AUX/SD Card/CD/Radio functions
- Brushed aluminium engraved "VW Polo Sport" twist-off Richbrook tax disc holder
- New replacement gear lever gaitor, from VW

I have all the original parts that I changed (radio, light clusters, bulbs, wheels etc) if someone would like to buy the car as it was, I will happily put it back to standard and sell off the parts, as there is hgh demand for parts like the rare Monzas, the adapters for the 9n3 light clusters etc.

The car had a full service & MOT carried out (which it flew through) with advisory to replace the front tyres and the rear-arm bushes on the front suspension, which I had replaced at the same time as fitting the new front tyres, all this done 2 weeks ago.

Rough valuations please, and I will be lookign to sell the car privately not trade-in! :D

Thanks,
JAMIE

I'd say between £2500 - £3000. Shouldn't have any problem shifting it at that price.

I'd also think seriously about taking off some of the things you've fitted as well, such as the chrome handles/tip, 9N3 rears, upgrade bulbs and Monzas. Maybe even the radio as well. Got to remember that, although people like those on this forum are into cars and would appreciate those details, most Polo buyers buy them as station cars or to go to the shops and then the bridge club. Slowly. Sadly, those people are really your target market if you want a quick sale and if your car looks different to all the rest of them then they'll ignore it. You'll also get good money for the Monzas at least, and you could probably get a set of the 14" alloys to put on for the sale if you haven't still got the originals.

Trade in isn't always a bad thing, especially if you're good at haggling and the dealer has a car that you want. Independents are better for this - VW wouldn't budge on trade in for my 1.4S but after some negotiation an independent gave me £800 more for it. Worth a try and saves you having two/no cars on the drive as well.

Alternatively, get an advert up on here. I'm sure it'll find a good home with someone on here.

Good post ^

There are some 15' Polo sport alloys in the for sale section which still look pretty good, you could possibly buy and fit those before selling them off to the kind of market described above, if not to an enthusiast. Then either keep/sell off the monzas to cover the 15' sport alloys and then some!

Yeah its definitely something I'd considered, and especially if I got another polo as the replacement I'd want to swap a lot of the bits over anyway. I will 100% sell Monza's seperately as they cost me a fair bit, and I've kept them in pristine condition (get cleaned more often than the whole car!) but the car came with 14" steelies with hubcaps, all in perfect nick but might buy some cheap 14" alloys as they're very commnon. I'd definitely sell then 9n3 rear clusters and wiring loom adapters on here as people are always wanting them, or keep the clusters as spares if they don't sell.

Will probably advertise the car at two different prices, one at standard and one with my mods.

Thanks Blazeguarder :)

And yeah cheers Ben, I tend to keep my eye on the for sale section alot so might consider putting some 15" sports on when I come to sell!
