Coilovers clunking ?

Post by DomG »

Hi guys,
Basically the cars looking beautiful the gti replica is really coming along nicely need to post pics soon,
however i had the fk coilovers fitted not too long back the car looks great slammed but the noise is not quite as great.
Basically both front coilies clunk when i steer the car on full lock both ways, does anybody know what this is ?
Thanks

Could be a few things, the most common seems to be the drop links knocking against the drive shaft as lowering moves everything closer together. Soloution, fitting shorter drop mounts. people use mondeo drop links.

In fact I have a spare set in my garage that are correct, Will happily sell them to you for what they cost me as they are brand new, PM me if interested.

Thanks for the rapid reply, im off tomorrow so ill definetly have a look at them see if theres any sign of knocking, a mate of mine was saying it could also be the end links not being tight enough as its only when i steer the wheels round confusing stuff :?

Its not the age its the length that makes them clunk.

Did you buy the shorter ones mate?

This happended with the shorter ones the suspension came with as well as the mondeo ones i changed to once those were shot.

Been meaning to do some research into this but as i am not on full lock much it's not top of my list.

I can also say its not topmounts as i have had brand new ones fitted when i fitted my coliovers.

I didnt look to be honest but the description on the pinned 'shorter drop links' on the forum is exactly what im experiencing and the springs are not moving and drop links thatr i have fitted are tight so its the only explanation i hope :|
