New polo with wiper problem!

Hi all, I am the proud owner of a N reg 1.4CL Polo....really happy because back in the day I owned 4 polos and I absolutely LOVE them!! I have however found a problem with the one I have just bought and would appreciate any help. The wiper stalk works for intermitent, plus front and rear wash-wipe, but does not stay up to give either normal or fast constant speeds. No amount of jiggling or force makes any difference...it's almost like there is no constant setting!! Has anyone had a similar problem and how can I fix it??

P.S. I'd forgotten how poor the brakes are!!

Had a similar problem with mine when I first got it. Got a new motor from a breakers and that sorted it.
