Right, after the overheating incident on Tuesday I have now replaced the expansion tank, cap and coolant. I started to investigate why this has happened (once with me and once with the previous owner). I let the car run to see if the fan was running but it wasn't. I replaced the switch but still nothing. The thermostat is opening and closing etc.
I've gone through everything with a volt meter, i even took off the module to have a look. No mater what i did the fan just wouldn't come on. I'm now under the assumption that i need a new radiator fan as i've tried everything else. Where's the best place to get them from.
On the plus side i bought new washer jets today as the clip on mine was broke on both sides. The VW heated ones were about £18 each and the normal ones were £6ish for 2. I bought the cheap ones, removed the actual spray bit and fitted it into the new ones. I now have 2 heated washer jets again all for the grand total of £6, result!!!.

Have you checked the water pump mate?
Re: The Plot Thickens with Overheating
If it was the water pump thr car would have cooked itself a long time ago. This is an historical fault. Besides the water pump not working would still not account for the fan not coming on with me shorting it wiv a wire. There's power getting to the fan, i checked with the voltmeter but the fan just wont work.
