Gti 30ed on a Polo Gti 2007..??!

Post by Joz »

Ey fellas,

I have a slight problem.. I really want to buy the Golf Gti 30edition steering wheel and fit it to the Polo. However, I would need a guide, and I'm unable to look one up.

This is the actual steering wheel I might buy;

It has paddles and multifunction, but it's fine to just forget about that, right..?
In addition, need to use the airbag I already got. Is that an easy task..?

Getting a Pro to do this would cost me waaay more than the actual wheel, as mechanics are frikkin' overpriced in Norway.. -_-

Thanks for all you kind replies in advance :)

It will go straight on and your airbag will go into it

Theres a few people on here with is already done

Not sure on the multifunction ect, don't think it will work

As for removing your old one,

Turn the steering wheel 90 degrees.

At the back of the wheel you will find a small opening.

Put a flat head screwdriver in and turn it

There are no screws there is a clip once released one side of the air bag will be released.

Then turn the steering wheel 180 degrees and repeat the above.

Then the wheel air bag can be removed.

There is a torx bir holding the wheel onto the splined shaft, I think its T25

Removing air bag

As per the above once you have unclipped the air bag its as simple as remove main bolt take your wheel off and put new wheel back.

That is sooo sweet! Thank you guys!

I've heard that you need some sort of special tool to loosen the wheel screw though. Like a tool VW invented for them selves or something.. :P

Need to check with my mate if he has it. If it is the T25, I've got it myself though.

It's the head bolt removal tool used in the older 16v and 8v engines. Think this is the same for 1.8t engines too.

Here is an image of it and one for sale if you need it

Yep, you'll need to disconnect the battery or you'll be buying yourself a replacement airbag as well...
