Clunking noise when reversing.

Post by Bruiser »

Hi there,

I have a 3 month old 1.4 SEL and have recently discovered a clunking noise in the brakes when i reverse. It is just one quick loud clunk when reversing quite sharply.

I am pretty worried about this as it is a brand new car and it should not be happening! . However I am going to contact Volkswagen and get it booked in straight away.

But does anyone have an idea what the cause of this is? or has anyone encountered a similar problem?

Thanks

Chris.

I doubt It's anything to worry about.

Every single Vdub I had owned with disc brakes on the back has done it. When brakes get wet, discs start to oxidise and pads "stick" to disks. As the car starts to move the brakes unstick there's a "Clunk" from the back, don't know why but it's always worse when reversing. By all means get it checked over it it worries you, but I'm sure it's just normal.

If you've got any doubts get it checked as it's your brakes. "Better safe than sorry" but I think you'll be fine.
