Ok, so I'm considering re-mapping or mapping. Dunno what it's called
I've spoken to a pro here in Norway, and all the people who has had their car at his shop are very happy. But is there anything I need to give extra attention if I map it? Will the gearbox break faster? need more oil? Anything special?
He said I will prob end up with 195bhp and 315-320nm. Very tempting ^^
You shouldn't see any problems with the gearbox or clutch with a stage one remap.
You just need to make sure you let the car warm up and cool down properly.
If you have been on a hard drive with the car let it idle for a few minutes, I put the AC on as this starts a secondary fan right in front of the oil filter so this is very good for cooling the car.
mate do it and dont look back was the best mod iv ever done to my 1.9tdi is goes like stink now i made 148 bhp on the rolling road from 108 bhp the stage 1 remaps are designed to be safe with the car the clutch will be fine but understand if you drive the car hard a lot it will wear a little bit quicker...
Thank you guys so much for the replies! Good to know all the stuff you mentioned
I have indeed been thinking about new brakes... But Im not really an agressive driver, so I need to consider how usefull if would be. If I am getting new ones, what would the ish price be?
Dub_Dan wrote:no worries mate but honestly the car will be fine on standard brakes its only a stage one my breaks have been fine and i have smaller ones than you!
Do you own a GTI?
Stage 1 polo will definately need the fronts to be upgraded to 312mm, I have a GTI myself and brakes pretty sharp for standard 150BHP!!! But also sat in a mapped polo gti with standard brakes, I can assure you the braking wasnt very responsive. Now it could be due to other factors like worn brakes etc.....but you'd expect alot of intense braking with a 200BHP polo

no i dont but my best pal does remapped and it felt fine if your going to drive like a nob everywhere and be hammering down on the brakes then thats a different story isnt it!?

Its all about safety dude
Mapped not mapped, better brakes means better stopping power.
Likes of corsa vxr (308mm) and clio 197 (312mm) come with bigger brake setup and both are around 200bhp. I am sure they are there for some reason

Totally agree, the Standard brakes aren't even that great with the car standard. No point spending loads of money on power mods and not upgrading brakes and suspension.
You could get away without upgrading the brakes, they aren't that bad but it would definitely be money well spent!
i definitely take in what your saying guys but i personally think it depends on the driver if your aggressive then yes advise upgrading the brakes but if not what difference would it make if you dont drive the car hard as you would be going the same speed as stock?
but it was stupid why vw gave the gti smaller brakes than its competitors as listed above...
