Insurance!!!!
Hi there Im 18 got my test in a month, and I've just bought a little 1.0l for my first car
But I've been going over insurance prices and its just mental! I went to a VW specialist insurance company thinking it would be cheaper and they quoted me £15000!!! The cheapest I've manged so far is about £1600 but I've got to pay it all up front with a massive excess! Does anyone know of any cheaper sites or little hints and tips etc? Any help would be much appreciated!

Re: Insurance!!!!
in all honesty the quotes your getting dont sound to bad, i dont know anyone in person who paid less then a grand for their first year of insurance, especially males.
a few things worth trying..
insurance companies;
Sky - when my bf had his polo G40 they were by far the cheapest quote
Admiral (Multi Car) - lots of people i know do this, and works out great for them
Direct Line - been cheapest for me for the last 2 years
anyone not on comparison sites
tips:
get you family on you insurance - my bf is the policy holder, he has me and his mum on his insurance, together we took hundreds off his policy quote, and it means i can drive his car
take advance classes ( think its called pass plus) its costs to do of course, but itll take money off you insurance for years to come. and apparently its quite fun and easy.
and something completely random - Jobs can make a difference. dont know why but i remember the quotes for a land scaper being different for say; a builder.
good luck

That sounds about right bud in all honesty you need to just grin and bear it. It's worth it for the freedom you get and believe me it does go down. Now I'm 20 with 3 years no claims I pay 400 for my 1.0.

Re: Insurance!!!!
My findings (maybe different for others though!):
DirectLine are worse than crap!
PassPlus made £0 difference to my policies with Admiral.
DirectLine would either give me a discount for that, or whatever offer they had on at the time not both.
DirectLine offers are meaningless - they're all the same value i.e., 2 months free (56 days), 1 day a week free (52 days) and so on.
Admiral/Elephant/Bell seem to be cheap. They own confused.com, hence why they top their quote searches.
Specialists aren't cheap!
10 month accelerator policies (Admiral group) are more expensive long term than 12 month ones (the reduction of having 2 months extra license is greater than 1NCB!)
Fully comp. can be cheaper (or at least equal to) 3rd party.
Job titles make a difference. I was a student at uni, paying £1kish, now I'm on a placement year as something science-y I think, and it's £750!
As Verity said, family can make a difference (esp. females it seems).
There are those polices where you can only drive between 5am-11pm or something, which can make it cheaper - I've found it didn't, but some friends did. (Would annoy me - I use my car to drive to nights out, so would get stuck and have to get it back in the morning.)
Mileage - the annual mileage can make a difference. Too low - they'll say you're unsure of the car - higher risk. Too high, more time on road, more chance of crashing. Somewhere there seems to be a balance/cheapest point.
If you're doing a mutlicar quote thing - saying you're an occasional drive has the same affect as low mileage - they think you're unfamiliar with the car, so charge more than they do for a main driver.
For reference on prices, I paid £750 for my Polo GTi @ 20 with 2 y/NCB and 3y/ license. I'm now paying £1.2k for my RX-8 (same circumstances) and my Polo is an extra £1,000 on top (with 0NCB as they're all on the Mazda) in an HP21 (code B I think) postcode.
Hope some of that's of hope - I have a person hatred of insurance firms, and spent a fair while messing around to get mine as cheap as possible.
