Its A DARK day for my GTi (Please read) :(

Post by Cadey »

Well I have been driving my polo for a couple of weeks thinking to my self, "This car isn’t right" it just did not perform as it should, I mean a feasta zetec !

When I leave my car running and pull off, you have to stop in a jam for a few mins and pull off it stinks of eggs... the cat I thought

Also when I change gear it miss fires every now and then and to top it off the rear wheel disk brake is rubbing....

So i take it in and the word "Head Gasket Blown" are belted at me !

Its a late 2001 Y plate with 27K on the clock, any one else had this problem or anything like it !!!

The work is all being done under extended warranty but I’m still pissed that such a new car needs a new head gasket, and it being a VW TOO !!!

They are fitting the rear disk brakes for free, replacing the car mats and also getting me a new passenger side head light washer cover and spraying it too but to be honest I don’t think that’s enough... they cant even get me a courtesy car !

Time to kick off again if they can’t get me one in the morning as I can’t get to work and they need it until Tuesday.

Sounds like typical VW customer service to me, had a broken valve spring on my car at about 25K, work was going to take a week but ended up taking 3!

Also had problems getting a courtesy car, went to VW UK in the end and complained about the dealer.

Never had good service from VW when it comes to warranty work, I use a different dealer now who are ok, but still not great!

Rob.GTi our regional host (worcester) had his turbo blow up after 50 (yes 50) miles on his 25th anni TDi. and his R32 he now has just came back from getting a new ecu (it fried somehow, it was also updated to remove the flatspot). Cliveyp anotehr mate, has just had to take his mrs's Lupo GTi back for the 2nd time due to electrical/ wiring faults, it's only ~9 months old!

They have all had appauling servide from the Dealers at Worcester, and not so bad service from Stratford. I was reading about after sales in America and they are meant to be attrocious for VW! but the consumer has some law over there where if the car is returned for a major flaw or 4 times within a yr then they can demand a full refund and get it, (think its called the turkey law or something random like that, i was on TV a few weeks ago)

That would be the 'lemon car' law.. I have to say, as legal terms go, that's a pretty good one :)

I do feel sorry for you.. it's bad enough when the head gasket goes on an old car, but you really don't expect it on something brand new..

Monday should be the day I get it back, though it MAY be Tuesday, this could truly not have happened at a worse time, I pulled this really nice girl on Friday night and she lives about 10 miles away, now that’s not far but it is if you fancy walking down a by-pass (A444)... I have managed to get a car for work tomorrow (Monday) from my mate :D

fiesta Si 1.4 16V, not bad considering that i would only have got a 1.2 8V polo G9 if I had a curtsey car :) (which I may add, with no disrespect to any of you that own them are about as responsive as a turd ejecting from the arse of some one suffering from constipation)

Anyways, if I get my car back Monday ill let you all no the exact amount of f**k ups it had and how she handles after the poor car has had its equivalent of brain surgery :? I would not fancy having the top of my head opened up and some grease monkey fit a new gasket to it

I bet they keep saying they havent got one for the time your car is in, but they have them some in a few weeks, cos thats what they always say to me !!!!!

Just make sure you get SOMETHING free outta them mate, even if its only a full valet, at least thats something !!

Good luck
