Idle Control Value

I think mine might needs adjusting as when the car is warmed up it sort of feels it wants to shut down. Can the ICV be adjusted by any chance?

What engine?

Sounds like the throttle body needs cleaning :-)

a good throttle body cleaning works wonders for idle problems,

just make sure its bone dry before putting it back on,

I'll second this. Mine always sounded like it was hunting at idle not just when turned on. Took off the TB works a dream bow :D

Sorry to mention the engine in question is 1.8T. I am still learning all the mechanical stuff :D The trottle body is at the end of the inlet manafold right?
Any DIY guide around?

Any DIY guide around?

Remove intercooler to TB hose. Remove solenoid motor at the back of the throttle body ( so you dot damage motor when moving throttle flap) I think this is held with a clip, I'm sure you could figure it out by looking at it.

Then all you need to do is remove the 4 bolts and pull the throttle body off the inlet manifold. Get some 40s carb cleaner and a tooth brush and give it a good clean. Make sure it's all dry then reassemble.

Once reassembled turn on ignition let it sort it's self out for a minute then start the car.

Please add anything I've missed folk or better ways to do it.

Does the solenoid motor have a black cover?
Also how far do I go about cleaning the throttle body, i mean can it be cleaned behind the flaps aswell? Sorry for asking this stupid question :oops:

Yeah I think it does have a black cover.

If you unbolt the throttle body from the inlet you should be able to clean both sides of the flap if you get my drift.

Before doing any of this, ensure that you know how the grottos body re alignment is done. If it's anything like the TT you need to leave the key at acc position for 5 minutes to allow trottle body to align itself. Otherwise I may be a vag com job depending if it's cable as well or fly by wire

One thing, do I need to buy a new gasket as mentioned in the above guide?

Yes also noticed about the throtle body alignment. The guide recommends leaving the key in ACC position as 'benmkiv' said above and with the bonnet up I should hear a high pitched noise confirming the alignment in progress.

The gasket is optional, not a necessity but if it's cheap you may as well while it's off

Well got cracking with the throttle body and yes it was dirty indeed. Made sure it was spanking clean due to my OCD :D
Also got a new gasket from VW although they gave me a square one whereas the old one was sort of circular from the sides.

One thing left the key on ACC for about 2mins heard some noise from the throttle body and when it stopped I started the car and idle seemed
fine. After about 2 hours started the car again but this time it was quite lumpy and struggling, so took the car for a run and when stopped
the car was still lumpy.

Came back home, kept her running for few minutes and turned her off. Started the car again and this time the idle seemed fine. Could it be something
to do with the throttle alignment not set properly?

Btw guys while cleaning the throttle body i moved the flaps to clean it properly. Could i have damaged it?

Started the car again today from cold and during the initial high revs it was being hesitant/lumpy as if it wanted to shut down?
Thid didnt happen before during cold starts :oops:

sometimes hesitate and lumpy could mean u have to adjust the revs, sometimes these things happens, normally when u start a car the rev goes up a bit and until its ready then after a little bit it calms down to 800/1000 revs
