why do we all put the hula flowers in our windscreen ?

all polos have it, mine are there cause my mrs 'aquired' them one drunken night when i picked her up from a club, they have been there ever since, plus i got an advisory for it on my mot as its an obstruction ha ha

VWs in general tend to have them
I've heard things about it being to do with Hippies and flower power (think lots of old beetles and campers)
But personally I think its to do with (of course) Hawaii, hula hula, surfing, campers pop into thought again.
But theres no real meaning Behind them as far as I've heard, it's just people really like them. - Halfords have even started selling mini ones in the form of airfreshners.
