Mudflaps, fitting to the 6R

Post by Beerbelly »

I've managed to buy a set of genuine VW mud flaps for the Polo on e-bay, unfortunately, despite being advertised as 'new' they arrived with no instructions. Despite looking as new, they have obviously been fitted to a car for a very short period of time. I suspect someone must have had second thoughts and sold them on soon afterwards. Anyway, some of the fittings are different and as I've got no instructions can anyone tell me which clips go where? I'm not even sure if all the clips are present, the kit came with 18x torx headed self tappers, 3x black nylon nuts, 4x black japaned metal clips, and 9 x silver galvanised metal clips. I can see that some drilling of the inner wheel liners will be needed and it looks easy enough to do, however, due the uneven / different fittings, I wonder if I am missing something?

Can't speak for the 6R, but on the 9N3 the mudflaps use some of the screws that hold the wheel arch trim in and also use some new self tapping ones which have nylon nuts on the other side of the trim to hold them secure. The metal clips 'pinch' the edge of the mudflap that covers the bodywork to keep it as flush as possible and to keep water etc out. Might be worth getting a wheel off and seeing if some of the uneven looking fittings match up with what's already there.

Hope this helps mate.

I have the fitting instructions for the front set, must have thrown the ones for the rear away. But once you've done the fronts you'll get the idea.

PM me your Email address and I'll copy you a set. Sounds like you may have the odd clip missing.

For the rear you have to drill one hole into the bumper where the flap goes underneath, it's all dead easy stuff, you'll need to get the wheels off the car though to have enough room to drill the holes in the wheel arch liners.

Original ones actually come in 2 versions. Short & Long.

Rear long - 6R0075101
Front long - 6R0075111

Rear short - 6R0075106
Front short - 6R0075116
