Ignition Live feed - fusebox KL 15

Post by icon_boy »

Hi all,

Can some one tell me where I get a ignition feed from the fusebox, like point me in the right direction as to where it is? Im retrofiting parking sensors and Im stomped on where this,

I know I can tap into an excisting wiring like the 12v socket, but I dont want to do this

any ideas?

What about the wiring for the reverse light? Might be a more streamlined solution as it would turn the system on and off with reversing?

There aren't open ignition lives that you can use if thats what you're asking, you'll need to use one already there. Other options would be things like the rear window demister, 12v socket as you suggested, brake light switch, horn, etc.

thanks for the reply,

one of the connections already makes use of the reverse wire, another goes to the diagnostics port (7), then there's the earth connection, so Im left with this KL 15 connection - which works out to be a ignition live cable - it has a connector on it which looks like it goes into the fuse box

I've had some help from the german website -

which advises to connect KL15a -> SB19 sw/gn

which has me stumped even further

SB19 refers to fuse 19. There should be a diagram in the handbook which gives the layout of the fuses. SW/GN means that the wire is black/green ie: black with a green stripe. Sounds like you need to connect this KL 15 connection to that wire at the back of the fusebox.

Hope this helps

thanks for your reply, you have sure given me clarity here.

If I may can I run this by you, one more time?

I purchased the loom from Kufatec - they havent that helpful..

KL 15 goes to SB19 of the fuse wire - this also happens to be the fuse for the reverse lights,

another bit of the wiring goes to port 7 of the diagnostic

Ground is obvious

and then there is one more cable labled as rückfahrsignal which in english means reversing signal - this cable connects to the revrse light - is this not the same as SB19 or if I undesratnd this correct - SB19 is the ignition feed for the reverse lights and the reverse signal is deffrent?

Im just a bit confused here

Yeah, the Kufatec instructions are a bit rubbish.

From your description, it sounds like you've got one wire going to the fusebox (SB 19) and then this other wire that you mention connects to the reverse light wiring so that, when the light is switched on, you get a signal to turn on the parking sensors. You couldn't get that from the fusebox or else the sensors would be on all the time if that makes sense. So although the system is getting power from the fusebox, it's being turned on and off by the action of the reverse light. I'm not sure of the route the wiring takes from the reverse light switch to the bulb itself, but hopefully if you lay the wiring out you'll get an idea of which end of the car it needs to be connected at.

I've just had a quick google and found this. Only skimmed it but it may be of some help? Sorry if it isn't.
