Changing the climate control panel ?

Post by Norbreck21a »

Hi our 6 month old SEL is running great, but now the dark nights are here, it's highlighted (no pun intended) an irritation with the interior of the car. The wife's car is specced with Climate control, and it's the only thing in the car that illuminates blue. All the dash, buttons and even the RCD510 are in a white /red combination and it just looks a little odd.

I know that just a month after ours was built in April of this year, VW changed the backlight colour from Blue to black with white writing to match the rest of the insides (see image link below). Does anyone know if this is a straight swap on the parts, or can the original unit be modified to use white LED's instead of the blue ones?

It should be the same as the original climate control panel, so should be straight swap.
I don't think the original blue display can be, modified to be like the new negative style.

No, the display cannot be modified to look like the newer spec climatronic disply, you could replace the blue LED backlight for white, but then it's going to be a lightbox at night and blind you!

The replacement part will just fit right in but you might want to sit down before they tell you the price at a dealership. This place out of China is one of the manufacturers and the only difference is the knobs have a chrome-esqu finish rather than a matte, brushed-look finish but you could always alter this with some scotch-brit if you wanted.

If you can read German, have a look here too....

Yes and reason why I didn't order climate with RCD510. Hope you get this sorted as it would annoy me.
