Welcome to the forum mate, glad to hear that you've finally seen the light!

The UK importer for VCDS (Vag-Com Diagnostic Software) is Gendan, or you can just keep an eye out on ebay. Be careful though as there are an incredible number of fake ones floating about.

You can get the complete cruise control retrofit kit from Kufatec here. You need the new control stalks and some wiring needs to be fitted. Shouldn't be too difficult since you're a mechanic. There are several guides available on the internet to help with fitting anyway. I've got the part number for the stalk lying about somewhere, I'll try and dig it out and post it up here later.

Get some photos up!

With the cruise control, it's genuine stuff. You get a loom that needs to be added which isn't a genuine VW part but uses the correct pins etc so it fits together properly. There are some wires to the indicator stalk, and one to a connector on the bulkhead. These just plug in. There is one wire that needs splicing into a wire from the fusebox but it follows the standard wiring layout so it's pretty OEM. You need to activate it with vagcom but thats pretty easy.

My vagcom lead was second hand, but it's genuine and has a Gendan sticker on it. Works perfectly with the software, never given me any problems. I suppose they probably get a good deal with bulk ordering since Ross-Tech only really supply America.
